Restoring the Community
As communities grow, businesses and other structures can become so much more than the sum of their parts. These landmarks become ingrained into the fabric of a community–and their preservation is critical to help a community maintain its identity over time. Nawkaw is proud to use innovative techniques to restore landmarks and return them to their former glory.
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
After decades of wear and tear, the Cincinnati Music Hall in Ohio needed extensive renovations to preserve and restore the hall for future generations. Improvements to the interior structure were made to upgrade and modernize the building’s function as a venue.
For the structure’s exterior, Nawkaw stepped in to even out the different brick color tones throughout the entire building and finished the nearly two-year renovation project with a harmonious final look. Today, the building stands as world-class music and event space to serve the Cincinnati musicians and citizens.
Before
The building’s masonry showed discoloring in many places. With no original brick remaining and no ability to create additional bricks of the same color, Nawkaw’s color-matching stain solution was able to cover up any repair and infill work.
After
Nawkaw completed touch-ups across the building to restore the structure’s inherent beauty. Thanks to long-lasting stains, Cincinnati Music Hall will look fabulous for decades to come.

Project: Neenah Clock Tower
Location: Neenah, Wisconsin
Constructed in 1888, the Neenah Clock Tower originally functioned as a beacon for City Hall.
For more than a century, this four-sided clock tower had been worn down from pollution, grime, and copper stains. In one short week, the brick, mortar, and stone were cleaned and restored. Next, Nawkaw stains were utilized to color the entire structure and mask infill work and mismatched brick.
The final look returns this clock tower to its rightful glory in the heart of Neenah.
Before
The Neenah Clock Tower exhibited signs of wear and significant discoloration throughout the structure. The tower was built back in 1888 and stands at 110 feet tall.
After
As there was no way to replace the brick with its original batch, Nawkaw was hired to restore the entire tower and preserve its natural beauty.

Project: National Veterans Memorial and Museum
Location: Columbus, Ohio
The National Veterans Memorial and Museum was to be constructed with a fair-faced concrete and glass exterior, giving grace and solemnity to the structure. After inconsistencies appeared during the poured-in-place process, Nawkaw’s expert team of Stain Technicians corrected the variations in color and shading
To retain the natural, organic look and feel of concrete, Nawkaw utilized translucent colors to let the texture of concrete shine through!
Before
The cast-in-place concrete shows severe discoloration over the entire building. Project managers chose Nawkaw to eliminate the discoloration without causing a “painted on” appearance.
After
With the completion of this project, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum is now revitalized, with a fresh look, scientifically formulated to last for many years to come.

Project: University of West Florida
Location: Pensacola, Florida
The concrete panels of this university were covered in unsightly blemishes and severe discoloration in many different areas. To even out the discoloration, Nawkaw used its proprietary stain NawTone-K Opaque. The opaque finish ensured proper coverage of the yellowing, marks, and patches on the concrete’s surface.
Using two coats and a color that resembles a natural, even concrete look, Nawkaw was able to equalize all imperfections, salvaging the facility’s appeal.
Before
The concrete showed heavy signs of discoloration over the entire panel. Many marks and spots were visible, leaving a poor impression on those entering the facility.
After
Using two coats of NawTone-K Opaque, Nawkaw restored the facility’s curb appeal by applying a color that resembles natural, flawless concrete.

Before Nawkaw’s color solution was applied, visible discoloration and yellow marks appeared on this precast panel. Nawkaw was hired to restore the natural concrete aesthetic.
After staining the concrete panel, the decorative details became the main focus of any viewer!
The visible patching on these buff-colored panels left them unsightly and mismatched.
Nawkaw was able to replicate the original color precisely and applied the stain to eliminate the patching!

Project: Kingsbury Medical Centre
Location: Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
This medical building got a major upgrade! Nawkaw’s expert color treatment turned this gray, concrete building into an extraordinary display of fresh, vibrant color with a beautiful wood grain contrast. Nawkaw Stain Applicators provided a natural and dark grey base, bright neon green accents, as well as created the faux-wooden look on textured concrete that fools visitors from any distance.

After
A combination of expert stain application and textured concrete created a modern and eye-catching final look.

Project: LaFarge Precast
Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
This precast building proves a little bit of stain goes a long way! Nawkaw partnered up with LaFarge, an industrial company that specializes in cement, to beautify this concrete structure. NawTone-K was used on all elements pictured.

Project: Peninsula Private Hospital
Location: Frankston, Victoria, Australia
This precast concrete project was completed in 2016. Nawkaw was hired to transform the form-lined gray concrete with striking and contrasting colors. NawTone was applied in cream, black, and red. Additionally, a chic, dynamic border was created around the windows.
Project: medical Centre
Location: Richmond, Victoria, Australia
The vision for this medical center was to stand out from its environment using form liners and Nawkaw to transform the gray precast color into stunning, bright green colors, using NawTone-G.

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand
When this road pump station needed a leatherlike finish on concrete, Nawkaw rose to the challenge. Nawkaw Stain Technicians used a unique application process on plain gray concrete elements to create the rusted metallic and leather-look using NawTone-G as a base and NawTone for translucent accents.
Before
This project was originally intended to have panels colored by mixing brown oxide into the concrete mix.
After
Instead of using the brown oxide, Nawkaw was brought in to realize the architect’s vision of rusted metal and leatherlike finishes. Nawkaw’s color solution is able to last decades using proprietary technology!

Project: Nepean Mental Health Hospital
Location: Penrith, New South Wales, Australia
Instead of a cold, clinical look for this healthcare facility, architects opted to include Nawkaw’s innovative concrete finishes to reflect the warmth and quality of care offered within. Nawkaw created a stunning weathered copper effect which accentuates the darker elements of the building’s materiality perfectly.
Project: 889 Collins Street Melbourne
Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
This concrete and glass structure boasts the inviting warmth and timeless beauty of wood tones thanks to Nawkaw’s staining process. Cement sheet panels were expertly stained and brought the ranged wood grain to life in this urban environment.

Project: Residential Color Change
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Blending in new additions, correcting color errors, or even restoring historic masonry structures are challenges easily addressed by Nawkaw without replacing any existing brick. This residential property in the Chicago Metropolitan Area required a complete color change. After power washing, Nawkaw’s expert Stain Applicators created a natural range of color. The final product is almost unrecognizable!

The original brick was a little too dark, so the owners wanted to change it up. Nawkaw first cleaned up the exterior brick to prepare it for our staining process.

Location: Arlington Heights, Illinois
Sometimes, all an older building needs is a color makeover, which is exactly what was brought to Arlington Heights apartments. Our Stain Technicians provided a complete color change using NawTone, resulting in a natural range of color which greatly improved property values!

This multifamily unit had light brick for years, and it needed an updated look on the entire exterior.

Project: Discovery Business Campus Parking Deck
Location: Tempe, Arizona
With the Atlas II Expansion of the Discovery Business Campus in Tempe, Arizona, increased parking demand necessitated another parking deck. Nawkaw got to work staining elements of this structure with NawTone, resulting in a stunning neutral tone and black-matte-accentuated appearance.
The final product blends seamlessly into the design and materiality of the pre-existing campus, which is home to companies like JP Morgan, Chase, Shutterfly, Northern Trust, and others!

This example displays precast concrete panels with colored leaf detailing using NawTone-G, creating a weathered copper look.
Project: Living Carlton
Location: Victoria, Australia
For this project, Nawkaw was contracted to create three unique finishes using a variety of Nawkaw products and colors. The gray precast was stained to replicate brickwork, using NawTone+Plus. The weathered copper finish was a combination of NawTone+Plus and NawTone-G Metallic. The charcoal color finish was achieved by using NawTone+Plus Translucent and gray NawTone.

Project: Osprey Suites at the University of South Florida
Location: St. Petersburg, Florida
The creation of the Osprey Suites was vital for the students of the University of South Florida at St. Petersburg. The project Nawkaw took on needed to evoke the existing campus’ materiality but likewise become a central structure in downtown St. Petersburg. The 375-bed dorm was colored and finished by Nawkaw’s Stain Technicians, who were able to match the school’s official colors and create a warm and welcoming space for students to live and thrive.

Before work began on the building, Osprey Suites stood as a plain concrete structure without identity.
After
Nawkaw colored the structure with translucent yellow and opaque green stain across windows and thoroughfares. The finishes result is a structure synonymous with the detail and care the University is able to provide!

This new auditorium construction for St. Mark’s Catholic College was colored using NawTone and NawTone-G to produce a corked wood aesthetic. This job, completed by hand by Nawkaw’s Stain Technicians, was the recipient of the Master Painters Association’s Award for Excellence in 2019.

Project: Workman Middle School
Location: Pensacola, Florida
Nawkaw worked with the architect of this Pensacola structure as well as the school itself to develop a brick red and beige buff color scheme. Staff and students returned from their summer breaks to a brighter and more welcoming school.

Before Nawkaw’s work began, the building had blemishes that needed to be cleaned before staining and lacked vibrancy and color.
After
Within two weeks, Nawkaw was able to use NawTone-K Opaque to remove the building’s blemishes and brighten up the school.

Location: Dayton, Ohio
This building at the University of Dayton had a light, yellow brick which visibly aged the structure and impacted impressions on the University inside.
Through Nawkaw’s staining process, it became more modernized with a darker and redder stain. This building now has a new look for students and staff to enjoy.

Project: Armed Forces Reserve Center and Field Maintenance Shop
Thirty years of experience and industry-leading service mades Nawkaw the eminent choice for finishing this impressive Armed Forces Reserve Center and Field Maintenance Shop. Exterior walls were constructed of tilt-up concrete panels, with patterns and textures created by formliners. Nawkaw then brought those textures to life by creating natural, multi-toned stone finishes that have permanently penetrated the face of the panels.

Project: Multi-use Office Warehouse
Location: Chicago, Illinois
This retail distribution center was purchased by a property management group and was re-imagined into a multi-use office warehouse. In order to get this space ready, masonry repairs and tuckpointing were completed.
